Our History
Uptown Church was founded in 1992 by Pastor William Trim and his wife, Joan, whose faithful leadership established a strong foundation for the ministry. After more than two decades of dedicated service, Pastor Trim passed the mantle of leadership in 2014 to Pastor Jose Perez, who faithfully shepherded the congregation until 2019. Since then, Pastor Gregory Amunga has served as Senior Pastor, providing visionary leadership and continuing the church's mission of proclaiming the gospel and serving the community.

Our mission is driven by a commitment to worship, discipleship, compassionate outreach, and building authentic relationships that strengthen both our church family and the surrounding community. Gregory & lady mary amunga
Senior Pastor
Pastors Greg and Mary Amunga are dedicated to building strong relationships, strengthening communities, and helping individuals and families grow through faith, healing, and restoration. Together, they combine years of pastoral leadership, ministry, and lived experience to create spaces where people are empowered to discover their God-given purpose and thrive.
As Senior Pastor of Uptown Church, Greg leads community outreach and initiatives that foster unity and build bridges across West Michigan. Mary, Director of Women's Programming and a graduate of Cornerstone University with a bachelors in Ministry Leadership, brings a compassionate, coaching-centered approach that equips folks to recognize their gifts and walk confidently in them.
Lyonel Lagrone II
Associate Pastor
Lyonel LaGrone II has dedicated his life to ministry, leadership, and strengthening the Church’s role in community transformation. With over 25 years of experience, he has equipped individuals and congregations through discipleship, teaching, and outreach. As Associate Pastor of Uptown Church, Lyonel leads efforts that foster healing, justice, and meaningful community engagement across the region.
Lyonel holds a Bachelors of Arts in Social Science from Aquinas College, an MBA in management from Strayer University, and a Masters of Arts in Ministry Leadership from Grand Rapids Theological Seminary of Cornerstone University.
